Saracens recorded a comfortable 41-8 victory over Newcastle on Sunday to ensure they finished top of their LV= Cup pool and so sealed their progression to the semi-finals.

A home semi-final would be a bonus but this will depend on Saracens’ trip to Northampton next week. The Saints have 14 points, Saracens have 15 and the winners seem sure to have home advantage at the next stage.

There were wins on Saturday for Sale, Bath, Exeter and Wasps, while Harlequins are expected to be awarded the points after their match against Leicester was called off nine minutes from time due to high winds, with Quins leading 20-6.

Saracens’ second string were also in action on Saturday, resisting a spirited comeback from South Africans the Sharks to record a 23-15 victory.
