Wales v Argentina: Toby Faletau happy to buck the trend after rejecting France approach to remain with the Newport Gwent Dragons

Toby Faletau might have bucked the recent trend among Wales international players - but he is comfortable with his decision.

Jonathan Davies this week became the latest star name to agree a deal in France after Clermont Auvergne confirmed a two-year contract for the Scarlets centre.

Davies will follow Wales colleagues like Jamie Roberts, Dan Lydiate, James Hook and Luke Charteris into the Top 14, while considerable speculation surrounds players such as Sam Warburton, Leigh Halfpenny and Alun-Wyn Jones, who are all out of contract with their regions next summer.

Wales number eight Faletau, though, is going nowhere until at least 2016 after agreeing a contract extension at Newport Gwent Dragons in August.

"I sat down with my dad and my family and we just had a chat and we thought it's not the right time to go anywhere so early on in my career," said Faletau, who celebrated his 23rd birthday earlier this week.

"Hopefully, if I get the opportunity again some other time I may go then, but I will just have to see how it goes.

"I am here until 2015-16, so I will stay focussed on that for now."

Faletau is set to win his 28th cap when Wales host Argentina on Saturday, so there has been little time to reflect and regroup following last weekend's punishing 24-15 defeat against South Africa.

"That was up there with one of the most physical games I've played in, and it took its toll," Faletau added.

"We've got to recover and get ourselves ready for Argentina this weekend, which will be another physical challenge. We lost to them last year, and hopefully it will be a better result this time .

"Argentina are big brutes, so we've got to match their physicality and their forwards. I think we managed to match South Africa's physicality, but we just couldn't get enough points on the board."

Wales coach Warren Gatland will name his team for the Pumas encounter on Thursday.

Enforced switches will happen at centre and tighthead prop, where injured pair Davies (ruptured pectoral muscle) and Adam Jones (calf muscle) look set to be replaced by Ashley Beck and Paul James, respectively.

James, normally a loosehead, packed down strongly at tighthead following Jones' 30th-minute exit last weekend, although Gatland could look at other options in Scott Andrews, Aaron Jarvis and Samson Lee.

Gatland will also hope that wing Liam Williams is declared fit after going off injured against South Africa, while loosehead prop Gethin Jenkins is poised to win his 100th cap, joining fellow Welsh centurions Stephen Jones, Gareth Thomas and Martyn Williams.
