Rugby World Cup: England issue injury update

England made a winning start to their Rugby World Cup preparations by defeating Wales 33-19 at Twickenham, ending Warren Gatland's side's 14-match winning streak.

The hosts got off to a flying start as Billy Vunipola crossed with barely four minutes on the clock, and wing Joe Cokanasiga doubled the advantage to 14-0 soon after when he scored from close range.

Wales were able to respond though, with scrum-half Gareth Davies scoring a beautiful solo effort as he fended off Vunipola and sidestepped Elliot Daly to score from distance, but a lapse in concentration allowed England a third try before the break through Luke Cowan-Dickie.

Wales responded in the second half with George North and Wyn Jones both scoring pick-and-go tries, but captain George Ford kept the scoreboard ticking over and a late drop-goal from Daly secured the victory. Re-live all the action below.

Prediction

Wales by 12: It’s hard to see a full-strength Wales side will fail to win this opening clash given how they were able to take the fight to England’s best side in February during the Six Nations. Wales should edge the scrum, which will give them the platform for their talented back line to do tha damage.

KICK-OFF: WALES GET THE GAME UNDERWAY!

3 mins:  It's a bright start from England. Debutant Ludlam takes the kick-off and England clear their lines well before receiving the ball back. They go through the phases nicely and Joseph finds an edge, popping the ball to Curry on a cut-back line that takes the hosts into the 22. The flanker offloads to Launchbury, but as he tries to ship the ball on it's flicked away and England have the scrum.

4 mins: TRY FOR ENGLAND!

4 mins: There's just no stopping these fast starts from England. It was a key aspect of their form last season, and once again they've crossed the whitewash inside the opening five minutes. England use blindside wing Cokanasiga for first-phase crash ball off the scrum, and the go-forward gives the rapidly-arriving Billy Vunipola the front-foot ball he needs to power his way over, free his arms and find the grounding despite a number of Welsh defenders in attendance. Ford converts and England lead 7-0.

A huge cheer goes up as his name is read, and although this is his first England appearance since the controversial Israel Folay saga, there's clearly no lingering aftere-effects.

8 mins: Ewels does well to charge down Davies' box-kick effort, and Curry almost does the same when Anscombe tries to clear the lines. The kick finds Cokanasiga and he gets a big run up into the Welsh line, but Adams, Parkes and Tipuric do well to hold him up long enough for the maul and win the put-in.

9 mins: The scrum never takes place. Alun Wyn Jones displays all the nous of his 135 caps to wind up the inexperienced Genge and Ludlam, and they take the bate as they pile into the veteran lock and give away a needless penalty for ill-discipline.

11 mins: Wales are picked off! It's Curry again who shows lightening speed off the defensine line to intercept Anscombe and offload to Joseph. He kicks ahead for Watson to chase, and the bounce is cruel for Davies that takes him to his own line. Watson gets the tackle in and Wales clear to touch, but it's under 10m out from the Welsh line and on England's throw.

12 mins: England set up the rolling maul and it makes swift progress to the line. England think they might have the try...it's a TMO check, and referee Mathieu Raynal believes it's been held up...

TMO REVIEW

12 mins: NO TRY

TMO Brian MacNeice says he does not have clear and conclusive evidence of a try, so stick with the held-up decision. It was Vunipola again who drove over the line, and I have to say from the replays we say, that looked to be grounded.

Five metre scrum to England to restart.
