The Rugby World Cup semi-finals threw up two compelling and hard fought encounters at Twickenham, but in the end it was southern hemisphere rivals New Zealand and Australia who progressed to the final next week.

The All Blacks suffered their biggest scare of the tournament against a physical South Africa side in atrocious conditions on Saturday, but tries from Jerome Kaino and Beauden Barrett ensured they had enough in the tank to defeat the Springboks 20-18.

Australia shot out of the blocks against a fan-favourite Argentina side that looked to stay true to their all-out attacking style. An Adam Ashley-Cooper hat-trick saw the Wallabies home in style along with an early score from Rob Simmons, while the Pumas ultimately fell short as they could only muster five penalties from Nicolas Sanchez.

While the All Blacks and the Wallabies march on to the final, the Springboks and the Pumas will contest the Bronze Final on Friday night at the Olympic Stadium in a bid to finish third and at least give their fans something to cheer about.

So who stood out this weekend to make it into the team of the semi-finals?
