The first round of the 2018 Six Nations produced plenty of thrills and spills across all three matches as England, Wales and Ireland all got their respective campaigns off to a positive start.

In Rome, Eddie Jones’ men found their stride to break Italian spirits and record a thumping 46-15 against the Azzurri. Anthony Watson and Sam Simmonds both starred as the reigning champions hit the ground running in their title defence.

Elsewhere, Johnny Sexton’s boot fired Ireland to a narrow 15-13 win against France, with his 83rd-minute drop-goal securing victory after a spirited French fightback.

And Wales defied all expectation in Cardiff to down Gregor Townsend’s Scotland, who had headed into the encounter as favourites. Despite an injury-struck starting XI, the Welsh mustered up a ferocious performance, laced with creativity and tenacity, to ride out victors at the Principality Stadium.

So which players stood out across all three games? See the gallery above for our Six Nations team of the weekend.
