Baltacha misses chance to end on winning note

Elena Baltacha is expected to return to the world's top 50 despite losing her last match of the season yesterday. The 28-year-old Briton, ranked No 58, was beaten 7-6, 6-4 by 41-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm in the final of the tournament in Poitiers, France.

The final was tight throughout, Date-Krumm recovering from an early break to win the first set tiebreak 7-3. Baltacha led 3-2 in the second set, but Date-Krumm broke two games later and went on to serve out the match.

Anne Keothavong will play her last tournament of the year this week in Ismaning, Germany. The British No 3 is expected to climb about eight places from her current position at No 91 in the world rankings following her 6-1, 6-3 victory over Poland's Marta Domachowska in the final of the Aegon GB Pro-Series tournament in Barnstaple on Saturday.

Britain's Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins have secured their first ATP title as a doubles team after they won the final in St Petersburg, beating Russians Mikhail Elgin and Alexander Kudryavtsev 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
