Kei Nishikori: Fifth seed withdraws from Wimbledon 2015
Last year's US Open finalist pulls out with injury
Fifth seed Kei Nishikori is believed to have withdrawn from the men's singles at Wimbledon with an ankle injury, The Independent understands.
He was due to play Colombia's Santiago Giraldo on Centre Court today as second match, after defending champion Novak Djokovic opened against Jarkko Nieminen.
For a second straight year at Wimbledon, the Japanese player needed five sets to overcome Italian Simone Bolelli in the first round on Monday. The 2014 US Open finalist prevailed 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 after three hours and 22 minutes.
The world number five, who last year reached the fourth round at the Championships, retired with a calf injury nine days ago in the Halle semi-finals.
