Kyle Edmund’s place in the history books is already assured but the Briton has the chance to go one step further when he faces sixth seed Marin Cilic in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

With Andy Murray out of the picture as he recovers from hip surgery, the British No 2 has stepped up to the mark and now stands on the brink of reaching his first Grand Slam final.

Edmund has seen off Kevin Anderson, Denis Istomin, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Andreas Seppi and Grigor Dimitrov on his way to the last four. Standing in his way of a probable final showdown with Roger Federer, who faces Hyeon Chung in the second semi-final, is Croatia’s Cilic, the world No 6.

Will Edmund be able to pull off another shock victory or has the youngster reached the end of his journey Down Under?

When does it start?

The match gets under way at 8.30 GMT (7.30pm Melbourne time) on Thursday 25 January.

Where can I watch it?

British Eurosport, which can be viewed on Amazon, have exclusive rights to the Australian Open, and will be showing the match. Coverage begins at 8am.

Head-to-head:

The players have met just once before, at last year’s ATP Shanghai masters. Cilic won 6-3, 7-6 in their round of 32 encounter.

Odds:

Kyle Edmund to win: 12/5

Marin Cilic to win: 1/3
