Nick Kyrgios targets Queen's Club title: 'I can win it'

The volatile Australian is yet to win a match in three previous appearances at the tournament

Nick Kyrgios has set his sights on winning his first major grass-court title after joining the field for the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s Club in June.

The volatile Australian is yet to win a match in three previous appearances at the tournament, losing to Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic before retiring mid-match against Donald Young last year after suffering a hip injury in a fall that also ruined his Wimbledon campaign.

But there is no doubt Kyrgios is a dangerous talent on grass, having upset Rafael Nadal to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon as a teenager, and he has high hopes.

The 22-year-old said: “I really want to do well at the Fever-Tree Championships. Grass is a surface I know I can play well on and it frustrates me that I haven’t been able to play my best so far at The Queen’s Club.

“I was injured last year and I’ve had some rough draws, but I’m confident I can put it together. If I do, I can win it. It’s a great tournament with a lot of history, and I’m pumped to be going back.”

Kyrgios joins a strong field for the event from June 18-24, with world No 1 Nadal, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov and Kyle Edmund having already signed up.

Also in the mix will be exciting Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who defeated Edmund in the first round on his debut last year before pushing Tomas Berdych all the way in a round two loss.
