SW19 Diary: Andy Murray's post box still good as gold

A popular spot for photographs just outside the courts is the gold pillar box painted in honour of Andy Murray's Olympic victory here last summer. It looks in better shape than its sister postbox in Murray's home town of Dunblane, which is reported to have suffered from fans picking flakes of gold paint off it.

Five-set thriller has Beeb buzzing

Murray's quarter-final was the perfect match for the BBC. While defeat would have been catastrophic with Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal already out, there is nothing better to entice viewers than the Scot fighting back in a tea-time cliffhanger.

Viewing figures peaked at 10.4m, up 3.3m on Murray's 2012 quarter-final, when he had only to rally from one set down to defeat David Ferrer.

Only put your house on the finalists

The prize money here may have leapt this year but it still will not buy much when it comes to local property. The cheapest advertised by the nearest estate agent in Wimbledon Village is a two-bed cottage for £570,000, which only the finalists can afford to buy outright from their winnings. The dearest property in the window is a £4.4m six-bed detached house. To buy this, the four finalists of the men's and women's singles would have to club together, but they would have a little bit of cash left over for redecorating...

Game, set and match-maker?

Murray revealed his tweet: "Thanks for your support! @emwatson" in response to actress Emma Watson's tweet of "Murray, Murray, Murray" was at the behest of Scott Sears, the brother of his girlfriend, Kim, who "is a massive fan" of the actress. Is match-making to be another Murray talent?
