Conor McGregor eyes boxing return with Manny Pacquiao fight on the cards

Former UFC champion boxed Floyd Mayweather in 2017

UFC: Post-match press conference with Conor McGregor

Former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor has said a return to boxing is in his sights as he continues to look for bouts that excite him.

The Irishman made a successful return to the Octagon in January when he stopped Donald Cerrone in just forty seconds after a 15-month absence from MMA.

And while McGregor promised an MMA ‘season’ this year, with two more fights possibly to come in UFC before 2020 is up, he has also acknowledged that he expects to box soon.

I am willing to fight anyone and have proved that time and time again,” McGregor told Bleacher Report.

“I look for a good scrap, and if it isn’t going to be that, I have no interest.

“The money is not why I do this. I am a very rich man, and my children and those that come after them will be just fine. I love the fight game.

“I learned many things boxing in Crumlin where I grew up, and my deep love is why I do this today. I will be in the Octagon again soon and fully expect to box again. You will need to stay tuned, but trust me—the fans will enjoy. Giving them what they want and entertaining them is important to me.”

McGregor has competed in just one professional boxing match, losing to Floyd Mayweather by TKO in 2017, but has expressed an interest in fighting Manny Pacquiao, who recently signed to the Irishman’s management company.

Meanwhile, coronavirus has forced UFC president Dana White to postpone several scheduled events in the promotion’s calendar in the coming months, meaning McGregor’s MMA ‘season’ may not play out as planned.
