Man in 'V for Vendetta' mask stalking students in Canterbury

Kent Police are investigating reports of a man who has been stalking women while wearing a horror mask around Canterbury city centre.

The man, whose mask is apparently inspired by the V for Vendetta movie, is said to have followed several different women on various occasions over the last week and to have grabbed at least one.

Two people have been questioned over the incidents, including a 15 year-old boy who was taken to the police station by his father to help officers with inquiries, and a 22-year-old man who was arrested and then released after being interviewed on Monday.

Night-time patrol has increased around Canterbury while detectives follow up new lines of inquiry.

Detective Inspector Andrew Bidmead from Kent Police said: "I'd like to thank everybody who has phoned in with information.

“I would urge all students follow the safety advice, particularly to stick to well-lit areas, avoid short cuts and avoid travelling alone at night.

"I know it's nearly Halloween and bonfire night and it's not unusual to wear fancy dress at this time of year, but I would warn everyone to celebrate responsibly and not do anything which may cause alarm, distress or fear to others."

The man, who reportedly took his mask off during one of the incidents, is described as white, around 5 ft 8, of slim build and wearing a black hooded top and jeans.
