Sun set: Now Kingston University bans sale of 'The Sun' on campus due to Page 3

Kingston is the latest university to ban sale of The Sun newspaper from its campus.

Last night, students voted in favour of a boycott at Kingston Union’s Big Students Meeting, which offered any Kingston student the chance to vote on a series of motions. The paper will not be re-sold until the paper's controversial "Page 3" is removed.

Jessica Falk, who proposed the motion, was thrilled at its success. She said: “More than half of Kingston students are women and I hope that this decision will help them not to succumb to the media pressure to feel defined by their bodies, but to celebrate their academic achievements and countless other talents."

She added: “It's an important symbolic step towards creating a culture of gender parity at Kingston.”

Kingston joins 28 other universities and university colleges that have already withdrawn "The Sun" from their campus shops as part of the No More Page 3 campaign.

Additionally, anti-abortion campaigners were banned from campus at the same time, after a "pro-choice" motion, proposed by Francesca Manning, was passed. This move came after a pro-life organisation had been permitted to attend the University’s Freshers' Fayre this year.
