The fickle world that is dating is increasingly going through a period of change as the lovestruck, with their yearning hearts, grapple between traditional and the more modern methods when approaching The One.

However, if this one chancer’s trick is anything to go by, it could well be the one of the best first-date requests we’ve ever seen.

University of Southampton student, Naomi Lucking, took to Twitter to share images of a note which was passed to her by a shy admirer while she was studying in the library.

Having gone to the effort to draw out an image of the WhatsApp instant messaging app on a smartphone, the young man asked inside: “Would you like to have a coffee with me someday?”

The tweet impressed social media users so much, that it has, so far, been shared almost 27,000 times in just two days with many praising both its creativity and creator:

Despite his creativity - and undoubtedly excellent attempt to secure a date - it seems Naomi had to let the poor guy down, having described the experience as “the most awkward” of her life:

Oh, well. Good shot, though. We wish him all the best of luck in his conquest to find that perfect first date.
