Bulgaria’s Bansko is the place to be this winter, having been announced as the best value destination for a week-long family ski break by TripAdvisor.

Located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria, Bansko has a selection of almost 100 hotels, including the Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena, which was rated Bulgaria’s second-best by the Travellers’ Choice Awards this year.

As the cheapest place to eat, dinner and drinks for four in Bansko comes to just £101 for seven days.

The total cost is £1,631 for a week-long trip for a family of four, which also includes accommodation, ski hire, passes and lessons. It's a fraction of the cost you’d pay at more popular destinations - a trip to St. Anton, Austria, would set you back £5,026.

Andorra is the most affordable country, with four destinations in the top 10 best value list, whereas Switzerland is the most expensive, home to four of the ten most expensive resorts. A week in St. Moritz costs £4,811, and the third most expensive, Val D'Isere, France, costs £4,606.

For beginners, the best value ski lesson for the whole family can be found in Formigal, Spain, where a family lesson costs just £40 in total.
