If you want to make the most of the Vesterbro nightlife, this hotel is ideal. It's right next to the Meatpacking District, or Kødbyen, where most of the old butchers' units have now been converted into restaurants, bars and galleries. The main train station and Tivoli are within walking distance, too. Perennial favourites among the many nearby restaurants include Kødbyens Fiskebar (great seafood), Mother (delicious sourdough pizza) and Hija de Sanchez (top taqueria).

By plane: direct flights to Copenhagen from London, Manchester and Edinburgh (1 hour 45 minutes). It's a 20-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs DKK 220 per day. Book flights to Copenhagen.

The lobby area blends industrial styling with residential Scandi chic - think polished concrete flooring, modular seating and interesting lighting. So far, so normal. In the bar and restaurant, though, things get a bit quirkier: here, inspired by the neighbourhood's meatpacking heritage, the design incorporates butchery motifs, with salami-effect countertops and carpets resembling marbled meats.

Check-in staff make a great first impression - they're efficient, personable and nicely jokey. There's a ground-floor fitness room, a ping pong table by the reception and hotel bikes for hire (if you're quick off the mark, the first two are free). Guests also get access to 5,000-plus digital newspapers and magazines via the hotel app.

Rooms are contemporary and streamlined, with pale wood floor, bedheads that incorporate plug sockets, lights and little tables and nifty tubular storage units. The overall look is quite industrial but copper accents add warmth to an otherwise muted colour palette of grey and white, and are echoed in the compact but smart bathrooms.

Room types: Standard, Superior, Superior Extra, Junior Suite, Master Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, TV, free Wi-Fi

The hotel restaurant, Mør, is a large, open-plan space, with exposed piping on the high ceilings and oxblood-red banquettes, which fit in with the meaty focus of the menu. Unsurprisingly, steaks are their speciality, and they make a good job of them, cooking perfectly to order and serving them with excellent crispy chips.

MØR restaurant & bar: Argentinean grill and Scandic cuisine. Open daily for breakfast and drinks. Open Mon-Thu for dinner. Sharing menu from DKK 375.
