OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Regent is just south of Unter den Linden, on the corner of Charlottenstrasse and Französische Strasse. Gendarmenmarkt, one of the most attractive squares in the city, is close by along with two monumental 18th-century churches, Französischer Dom and Deutscher Dom. Unter den Linden U-Bahn station is a short walk away, and the hotel has underground parking. Catch a classical concert at Konzerthaus Berlin or an opera at Komische Oper, or visit the Christmas market in Gendarmenmarkt.

By plane: direct flights to Berlin Brandenburg from London (1 hour 40 minutes), Manchester (1 hour 55 minutes) and Edinburgh (2 hours 5 minutes). It's a 40-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs €40 per day. Book flights to Berlin.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

'Quiet splendour' is the name of the game, from the fabulous flower displays and glossy grand piano in the marble-floored lobby to wood-panelled lifts and plushly-carpeted corridors. This is a five-star hotel that values traditional elegance with glistening chandeliers, gilt-framed oil paintings and a sense of decorum. Expect well-dressed and well-behaved guests to match.

THE FACILITIES

'We wish to provide you with exceptional comfort and care' says the welcome letter, and that's what you get. On the lower ground floor, the Regent Health Club has a windowless fitness centre, separate male and female saunas and two treatment rooms offering beauty therapies and ayurvedic and aromatherapy massages.
