OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

In a southern suburb of the city, the immediate location isn't particularly attractive, being on a busy ring road with nondescript shops, offices and housing blocks all around. However, you soon forget all that when you enter the plush building. The centre is quite easy to access: it is less than a ten-minute walk to Amstelveenseweg metro station, and tram 24, which stops just outside the hotel, takes you to Museumplein and the main museums. Closer to the hotel, you'll find several restaurants, a Saturday market, and the Vondelpark if you want to stretch your legs.

By train: the Eurostar goes direct from London St Pancras to Amsterdam Centraal. The hotel is a 20-minute taxi ride from the station. Book trains to Amsterdam.

By plane: direct flights from London and Manchester take around 1 hour 15 minutes. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Schiphol airport and a 25-minute drive from central station. Parking costs €25 per day. Book flights to Amsterdam.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The decor and furnishings fit in well with the overall design and promote a calm and cosy atmosphere. There's a subtle 1970s retro feel. The colours used, like terracotta, vibrant green and blue, and interesting artworks, make it an especially attractive place to stay.

THE FACILITIES

Geared to the longer-term guest, each apartment/room has a kitchen and there's a laundry on-site, as well as a fitness room and spacious sauna. Bikes can be hired, and there is an attractive lounge area for relaxing. The staff are friendly and helpful. There's also parking on site, which is a rarity in Amsterdam.

FOOD AND DRINK

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, however, it has an arrangement with a neighbouring one, Het Amsterdamse Proeflokaal. This offers good breakfasts, lunches and dinners, including local dishes. It can also provide room service for the hotel.

TWENTY EIGHT Bar: cosy lounge and lobby bar. Self-service honesty bar. Open daily, 24-hour. Breakfast can be served in-room and is sourced from local artisan producers.
