OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Hidden among agricultural fields, the hotel is just 400 yards from the coastal Royal Jersey Golf Course and the sandy beach of the Bay of Grouville beyond. You feel you're in the countryside while just skipping distance from the beach. A bus runs westwards into town and eastwards to the village of Gorey with its harbour and imposing medieval castle.

By plane: flights from London Heathrow to Jersey take around one hour. The hotel is a 25-minute drive from the airport. Free parking available.

By boat: ferries to St Helier run from Poole (4 hours) and Portsmouth (10 hours 20 minutes). Book boats.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

There is a bold attempt to elevate the interiors to something a little more stylish and unique than most three-star hotels. Chairs in the reception are upholstered in zebra print, while chrome bar stools line the bar. The extensive gardens include a pergola and many mature trees and beds of marigolds.

THE FACILITIES

Service is super friendly. Beware the outdoor pool isn't heated and the tennis court has seen better days, but the addition of both makes for a variety of leisure options to add to the nearby beach. A library of books and games is also available for guests.

BED AND BATH

Rooms don't quite have the same style details as the public rooms and are a little ubiquitous with pale wood headboards and white sheets. However, they are perfectly comfortable and framed pictures of film stars or musicians brighten the grey walls while bathrooms are metro-tiled with Spa toiletries.

Room types: Single Room, Double Room, Superior Double Room, Triple Room, Family Room

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, seating area, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

A simple menu of popular dishes is well-executed. Expect starters such as toast and paté or tomato and mozzarella salad, and mains of chicken curry or steak and chips, with classic desserts such as creme brûlée or Jersey Dairy ice cream. At breakfast, you can have your eggs cooked to order.

Restaurant: main dining room. International cuisine, seasonal ingredients. Bar snack menu available all day.
