OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Jersey's Waterfront is a little south of the main thrust of St Helier and it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the shops and bars of the town centre. However, the cinema and a range of chain restaurants are a five-minute walk. It's a ten-minute walk to get the duck to Elizabeth Castle, and about 15 minutes to the main harbour for boats to the UK and France.

By plane: flights from London Heathrow to Jersey take around one hour. The hotel is a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport.

By boat: ferries to St Helier run from Poole (4 hours) and Portsmouth (10 hours 20 minutes). Book boats.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The whole hotel is light and airy, with lofty ceilings and large windows framing the sea views. The style is contemporary, with oversized velvet armchairs, bare tungsten bulbs and theatrical purple seating in the restaurant. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the views of the marina and castle beyond.

THE FACILITIES

Service is friendly and efficient. Facilities include an indoor pool, sauna and steam room and fitness centre, which are in their own wing to the right of reception. You can ask for beach towels if you are heading that way and there's free onsite parking. You might also find live music at weekends.

BED AND BATH

Rooms either face the sea, the marina or the beach with the higher-grade suites having floor-to-ceiling windows to frame the view. Most are decorated in neutral shades of cream and chocolate, but a few have brighter interiors of puce pink or red. The in-room iron and trouser press tell of a weekday business clientele.

Room types: Standard, Superior, Premium, Family, Junior Suite, Panoramic Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, TV

FOOD AND DRINK

Contemporary fusion food is the order of the day at the lively Waterfront restaurant. Perhaps try the mussels with coconut milk, lime and coriander or the slow-cooked pork belly with potato galette, chorizo and butter bean cassoulet and Jersey black butter chutney. Breakfasts are full buffets with plenty of hot and cold options.

The Waterfront: modern European menu, al fresco dining. Open daily for breakfast and dinner; Sunday lunch 12.30-3pm.

Afternoon tea: Served daily 2-5.30pm.
