Budget airline easyJet has begun a new service to Malta.

The no-frills carrier will be flying twice-a-week services between Belfast International airport and Malta using Airbus A319 aircraft.

On today's first flight from Belfast was Joseph Zammit Tabona, Malta's High Commissioner to the UK.

Paul Simmons, easyJet's regional general manager, said: "We're delighted to be launching this new route to Malta, which is a popular destination for leisure and business travellers, and strengthens easyJet's existing destinations from Northern Ireland."

Belfast International chief executive John Doran said: "It's great to see the return of direct flights to Malta."
