Book by 30 September and Western & Oriental has a range of deals on exotic five-star breaks. Examples include a week's B&B in Borneo at the Gaya Island Resort for £1,189pp, travelling in October and November with Malaysia Airlines from Heathrow via Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu. Or aim for the Caribbean instead, where a week in Barbados at Crystal Cove by Elegant Hotels is £1,699pp with all-inclusive board, transfers and British Airways flights from Gatwick between 8 October and 30 November (westernoriental.com).

Sail away

Kuoni has new "stay and cruise" itineraries. Examples include an 11-night US and Caribbean holiday, with flights to Fort Lauderdale followed by a week-long voyage around the Caribbean aboard the Celebrity Silhouette, then four nights in New York at the Gotham Hotel, with a food tour around the Lower East Side and a helicopter ride over the city. The price is £2,704pp, departing on 6 April (kuoni.co.uk).

Brazil bound

The Brazilian airline, TAM, is selling non-stop off-peak flights to Rio and Sao Paulo for £699 return. Book by 3 October for travel between 20 October and 12 December. Connections to the capital, Brasilia, the north-east city of Salvador de Bahia, and Curitiba in the south are also available via Sao Paulo to £749 return (tam.com.br).

Autumnal Italy

If you fancy an autumn break in Italy, easyJet Holidays is offering five nights on the western shore of Lake Como for £264pp. The trip includes flights from Gatwick to Milan on 17 October, with B&B at the Hotel Bazzoni & Du Lac, a resort in the centre of Tremezzo (holidays.easyjet.com).
