White Christmas

Ski Europe has a range of departures that will take you to the slopes for Christmas. Examples include a week in the French resort of Les Deux Alpes, departing from Gatwick on 21 December with Monarch flights to Grenoble, for a fully catered stay in the Chalet Alice. Or, for £699pp, you could spend the festive period in the Italian resort of Courmayeur at Chalet Hotel Cristallo, with BA flights from Gatwick to Geneva on 22 December (skieuropeonline.co.uk).

Highland Hogmanay

Wilderness Scotland has the chance to celebrate New Year's Eve in the Highlands. The three-night package costs £525pp starting from 30 December, with B&B at the The Boat Hotel in the heart of the Cairngorms, a champagne dinner on the first night and a five-course Hogmanay gala for the main event, followed by a bucks fizz breakfast and a bracing guided walk around the park on New Year's Day (wildernessscotland.com).

Beach bliss

For something a little warmer, consider a week in Bali. The deal with Virgin Holidays departs on 12 February with Qatar flights from Heathrow via Doha for a B&B stay at the Aerowisata Sanur Beach for £899pp. Set back from Sanur Beach, the hotel has two pools, a spa and tennis courts (virginholidays.co.uk).

Vintage vacation

Arblaster & Clarke has a new one-off wine tour of Portugal's Douro Valley. Running from 12-17 May, it takes in unspoilt landscape and rural vineyards, with five to 10 miles of walking each day and picnic lunches. The five-night trip costs £1,095pp with B&B accommodation, nine other meals, vineyard visits, tastings and transfers, but not flights (winetours.co.uk).
