A "for sale" sign was finally raised above Stansted airport yesterday, after BAA lost its latest appeal against the CompetitionCommission.

The commission first ruled BAA must sell Gatwick, Stansted and either Glasgow or Edinburgh airports three years ago. BAA sold Gatwick and recently agreed to sell Edinburgh. Stansted has suffered a traffic slump in recent years.

A spokesman for BAA, which owns Heathrow, said it was "disappointed by the decision".
