Andalucia in style

The Al-Andalus train is back in action. Seven of the original 1920s sleeper carriages have been restored, ready to sweep a new wave of passengers through Southern Spain. Highlights include stops in Seville, Córdoba, Granada and Cadiz. Island chic

States sale

Until 25 Sept, American Airlines has a US seat sale, with return fares from Heathrow to New York (£444), Miami (£478) and LA (£554). Travel by 23 June, 2013, excluding the pre-Christmas peak (aa.com).

The saga continues

Twenty years after the long and bitter civil war ended in Mozambique, the former Portuguese colony is now on the map for the over-50s specialist, Saga. Its first tour to the country – which also takes in the Kruger National Park in South Africa – departs next year and costs from £2,799 per person for the 12-night trip (sagaholidays.co.uk).

The date, in March next year, when Virgin Atlantic begins its first domestic flights in the UK between Manchester and Heathrow. There will be three flights a day, using an Airbus A319.

Brough BBQ

The Eden Foodival takes place tomorrow, in the market town of Brough in Cumbria. The annual event gets going with a Big Barbecue Breakfast and continues with cookery demonstrations, food stalls and live music (edenfoodival.co.uk).

Mountain high

Summit Retreats, a new luxury ski chalet specialist, is taking bookings for the 2012-13 season, with properties from Chamonix to Châtel. They include the fully-catered Chalet Treize Etoiles in Verbier, which comes with a hot tub and private chauffeur (summitretreats.com).
