Today: Cosy up at The Bell, a newly-refurbished country inn at Ticehurst, East Sussex. Inglenook fireplaces and wooden beams have been restored, while new additions include bowler-hat light fittings, iPads in each of the seven bedrooms and copper bathtubs (thebellinticehurst.com).

This week: Helvetic Airways is launching a new route from Bristol to Zurich on Monday, placing skiers and boarders within easy reach of a number of Swiss resorts, with three flights per week (helvetic.com).

Meanwhile, in Dubai, the International Film Festival starts on Wednesday, with the premiere of the new Mission: Impossible film, starring Jeremy Renner, Tom Cruise and Paula Patton as well as Indian film screenings and an "Arabian Nights" programme; to 14 December (dubaifilmfest.com).
