1. Firm offer

Tim and Kit Kemp's new Ham Yard Hotel in Soho is taking reservations from 1 June. It will be the eighth property for Firmdale Hotels, which has boutique retreats in central London that span from Covent Garden to Knightsbridge. The latest addition will feature a tree-filled garden, with a bronze sculpture by Tony Cragg, 91 rooms, a roof terrace and a Soholistic spa.

2. Bali fly

The options for reaching Indonesia's key tourist destination are increasing. From 26 July, Royal Brunei resumes services between its hub, Bandar Seri Begawan, and Bali's international airport, Denpasar, at the south of the island. There are easy connections from the airline's daily flights from London via Dubai, which are now operated by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

3. Bendigo bed

The Art Series group, a collection of Australian hotels dedicated to different artists, launches a new property in May. This time, the location is Bendigo, in the southern state of Victoria, and the artist in question is Mark Schaller, founder of the rebellious Roar Studios in the Eighties. The Schaller Studio will feature original paintings, mosaics and sculptures.

4. Art attack

The Meliá group's ME London hotel on The Strand is to host the "Stealing Banksy?" exhibition from 24-27 April, which explores the social, legal and moral issues surrounding the sale of street art. The exhibition will showcase an extensive collection of Banksy artworks, including No Ball Games. An auction will take place on the final day. Tickets £17.50.

5. Walk on

The John Muir Way is due to be opened by Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, on Monday. The 134-mile walking route will run from Helensburgh in the west to Dunbar in the east – birthplace of the Scottish-born naturalist and founder of the US national parks. The opening coincides with the John Muir Festival, with daily events planned at 10 locations along the path.

6. Screen star

Ibiza gets a pop-up cinema this summer in the form of Lime in the Coconut. Screenings will take place in three venues: on Fridays from May to October at the Cotton Beach Club in Cala Tarida; at Amante Beach Club on Cala Llonga on seven Mondays throughout the season; and in July and August at the Baluarte de San Pere in Ibiza Town's Dalt Vila.

7. Don't Settle

Next Saturday, "Walk the Line in 2014" begins alongside the Settle to Carlisle railway, marking 25 years since the line across the Pennines was saved from closure. The first stage, the 14 miles from Settle to Ribblehead, starts at 9.50am. "These walks are strenuous with time constraints and suitable only for experienced walkers," say the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line.

8. Mersey boat

Cruises along the Manchester Ship Canal from Liverpool to Salford Quays (and vice-versa) begin this weekend. The price of £38 includes the six-hour cruise (with live commentary) on a Mersey Ferry and a bus ride back to your starting point. Most cruises allow a two-and-a-half-hour stay at the destination. They will run on a range of dates up to 12 October.
