Viva, OId Vic!

Mexico comes to south London next week: the Old Vic Tunnels, beneath Waterloo station, will be transformed into a Day of the Dead celebration with food from the Wahaca franchise, music from Rodrigo y Gabriela and a mezcalaria bar. From 31 Oct-3 Nov, tickets from £30 (oldvictunnels.com).

Bright light

The Statue of Liberty reopens tomorrow after a year-long refurbishment. Visitors will be able to visit the crown, but sections of the pedestal deck and museum remain closed until January (bit.ly/LibertyNY).

North star

Spitzbergen gets easier to reach from next March as low-cost airline Norwegian launches services in competition against SAS from Oslo to Longyearbyen. There are connections from Edinburgh and Gatwick (norwegian.no).

Mexican brave

Aeromexico flights from Heathrow Terminal 4 to Mexico City start three times a week from 14 December; on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays (aeromexico.com).

Rich coast

From 12 December, you can check in at the Dorado Beach Resort & Spa, Ritz-Carlton Reserve's latest property on Puerto Rico's north coast. It has 100 rooms, 18 ocean-front suites and a spa. Suites from US$959/£600 (ritzcarlton.com).

Peru PC problem

The Foreign Office has warned Britons about problems entering Peru with more than one laptop. "Familiarise yourself with Peruvian immigration or customs procedures ... we cannot intervene if you are refused entry," it adds (fco.gov.uk).

The big trip

The number of continents now covered by G Adventures. The tour group (formerly known as Gap Adventures) has added New Zealand and Australia to its roster. The 25 group trips across Oceania will be available from 2013 and range from three- to 21-days. They are categorised as either "Yolo" (18 to 35 year olds) or "G-Plus" (comfort).
