Q You were talking about the busy times for British motorists heading for France. We're going there midweek, but coming back over the Bank Holiday weekend. Will that be bad?

(Name supplied)

A I hope not, but if you are returning from the South of France then prepare for delays. The indications I am getting are that the Bank Holiday Weekend from 23-26 August and the following weekend, 31 August/1 September, are both going to be busy on the cross-Channel routes to Dover, Folkestone and the ports further west. Be prepared for queues when boarding. In addition, the French authorities predict the worst congestion from the South of France on 24 and 25 August. So if you can, for example, plan to stay overnight somewhere close to the Channel. That should minimise the potential frustration.
