As part of the London Design Festival, 13-19-year-olds can today explore creative careers with designer Ella Doran at the Southbank Centre. The free Design Your Own Tray event kicks off at 2pm and a limited run of a participant's design will be sold in the centre's shop (southbankcentre.co.uk).

If you're quick enough you can catch the final day of Eastbourne's Go Fast! Speed Days, otherwise known as the UK leg of the World Downhill Skateboarding Championships. Speedy boarders will be competing in the finals today around Beachy Head in East Sussex (gofast speeddays.com).

From tomorrow, a new exhibition at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, in Devon, will allow visitors to see Nature in a Different Light – literally. Photographic portraits of some of the zoo's inhabitants will be paired with thermal images of the same animals (paignton zoo.org.uk).

Explore the new sculpture exhibition from Sotheby's, Beyond Limits, staged until 2 November in the gardens at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. Some of the 25-plus outdoor pieces were inspired by the house and sit comfortably alongside the work of modern artists, such as Dali (chatsworth.org/events).

The Beamish Museum in Co Durham will be taken over by strange straw structures during its Corn Dolly Weekend, pictured, which starts Saturday. Harvest all there is to know about these traditional autumn decorations (beamish .org.uk).
