Zoo uses ‘poo power’ to heat buildings in world-first initiative

Marwell Zoo has become the first of its kind to generate renewable energy from the waste products its animals produce.

The zoo collects the dung from animals such as zebras, oryxes and wild donkeys to power the heat in the buildings throughout the zoo.

The animal enclosure expects the Energy for Life initiative to save 220 tonnes of CO2 each year and hope it will help them towards their goal of becoming carbon neutral next year.
