Driving test examiners jailed for passing learners for cash: were the sentences fair?

Wouldn't it be so much easier if you didn't have to go through the hassle of taking lots of driving lessons or that dreaded test before getting on the road?

No, you say? That could potentially result in reckless drivers taking to the roads and risking the lives of everyone around them?

Of course. But two driving examiners in Warwickshire thought otherwise when they received between £500 and £1,000 from learners in exchange for test passes.

After a three-year investigation into driving test fraud, two examiners, an instructor and seven candidates have been sentenced.

The examiners received three years and 18 months in jail, and were disqualified from driving for two years. The instructor was sentenced to 15 months in prison, and seven learners were given prison sentences of between 10 weeks and four months.

Investigations are reportedly continuing, however, as police cannot be sure how many drivers bought their licences during the scam.
