Alan Pardew looks set to join Crystal Palace, meaning Newcastle are in need of a new manager.

The role at St James' Park is something of a double edged sword - and one that has dealt serious wounds to many of those who have taken it.

The club attracts an average attendance in excess of 50,000 to home games, making it the third best attended club in the Premier League.

But whilst support for the Magpies is huge, so are expectations, which some might argue are unrealistic. Owner Mike Ashley has shown an unwillingness to invest in the transfer market, resulting in the manager being tasked with conjuring greatness from mediocrity. Not easy.

But that won't stop a host of managers seeking the position.

Here, we take a look at those linked with the hot-seat at St James' Park and the likelihood of them becoming the next Newcastle manager.
