12 Days of Christmas: Barbara Windsor on how your donations can help children awaiting new hearts

In the fourth installment of our 12 Days of Christmas series, the EastEnders star explains how your money could fund specialist treatment areas within GOSH's new heart unit

Barbara Windsor is the latest celebrity to throw their support behind The Independent’s Christmas appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) with a special video message.

As part of the appeal’s 12 Days of Christmas series, the 78-year-old actress and former EastEnders star explains how donations can will support the creation of a new cardiac unit hospital that will provide certain children with special around-the-clock care as they wait for a heart transplant.

“High dependency bays are vital areas for patients who require round the clock care from nursing staff,” she said. “Your donation to the Give to GOSH appeal could help fund a four-bed bay within the new cardiac ward to ensure that young patients have access to the best care possible, 24 hours a day.”

With her Christmas message Windsor joins Silent Witness’ Emilia Fox and the comic John Bishop, who has appealed for readers help to support “one extraordinary hospital”.

Celebrities including David Beckham and Johnny Depp have also thrown their weight behind The Independent's record-breaking campaign, which topped one million pounds last week.
