  • Poet and performance artist Andrea Gibson, Colorado's Poet Laureate since 2023, has died at the age of 49.
  • Gibson passed away at their home on July 14 at 4:16 am, surrounded by family and friends, following a battle with ovarian cancer.
  • Known for their work on gender identity, social justice, and LGBTQ+ issues, Gibson published seven poetry collections, including Pole Dancing To Gospel Hymns.
  • Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, which reoccurred in 2022, Gibson's journey was documented in the 2025 film Come See Me in the Good Light.
  • Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued a statement mourning Gibson, who was described in an Instagram announcement as having 'loved their life' despite their illness.
