Martin Clunes announces death of beloved Doc Martin canine co-star
- Martin Clunes, star of Doc Martin, has announced the passing of Dodger, the dog who played his character's pet on the show.
- Dodger played Buddy, a rough Jack Russell terrier, appeared in 10 series before retiring in 2019 due to dementia. Dodger died in 2023, Clunes said this week.
- Clunes' character, Dr Martin Ellingham, was portrayed as disliking dogs, creating a humorous onscreen dynamic with Buddy.
- Clunes used a special technique of mouthing words without sound to avoid upsetting Dodger during scenes where his character yelled at the dog.
- For the final series of Doc Martin, Buddy was replaced by another dog of the same breed named Taffy.
