‘End of an era’ as E! News cancelled after three decades

  • The nightly celebrity news programme E! News has been cancelled by Versant, the company overseeing E! and other former NBCUniversal cable networks.
  • The final episode of E! News, which launched in 1991 and has been on air for 34 years, is scheduled to broadcast on 25 September.
  • Around 20 staff members working on the programme are affected, with some being offered alternative roles within the company.
  • E! News will continue to exist as a digital brand, shifting its focus to growth on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
  • The cancellation is part of a broader shake-up where NBCUniversal has split into two entities, with E! now falling under the new company, Versant.
