Gene Hackman’s medical history revealed in autopsy report
New video from inside Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's Santa Fe home released
Gene Hackman's autopsy, conducted after he was found deceased at his Santa Fe home, revealed he had a history of congestive heart failure, severe chronic hypertensive changes in his kidneys, and neurodegenerative features consistent with Alzheimer's Disease.
Hackman also had a bi-ventricular pacemaker and showed signs of previous heart procedures, including coronary artery stents, a bypass graft, and an aortic valve replacement.
His wife, Betsy Arakawa, died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare rodent-borne disease. Hackman's autopsy showed no signs of the virus.
An environmental assessment of their property revealed rodent infestations in multiple outbuildings, but not their main residence.
The investigation aimed to assess the risk of hantavirus exposure to first responders and family members.
