Update to when sequel to 1990s crime thriller Heat will start filming
Al Pacino in Heat (Warner Bros Pictures)
Director Michael Mann has confirmed that the film adaptation of his novel 'Heat 2' is in active development, with a potential shooting start in 2026.
The book, co-written with Meg Gardiner, serves as both a prequel and sequel to Mann's acclaimed 1995 crime thriller 'Heat'.
Mann clarified that the original 'Heat' was an "ensemble of brilliant actors" film, not solely an Al Pacino film, and one of his best directorial experiences.
Casting speculation for 'Heat 2' includes Timothée Chalamet for a younger Vincent Hanna and Austin Butler for Chris Shiherlis.
Al Pacino and Robert De Niro have previously discussed the potential use of de-aging technology to reprise their roles for the prequel elements of the story.
