Happy Valley actor reveals he suffered medical crisis at black-tie event

James Norton on Bond rumours
  • Actor James Norton, 39, experienced a health crisis at the GQ Men of the Year Awards due to a sudden drop in blood sugar levels.
  • The Happy Valley actor, who was diagnosed with diabetes at 22, took insulin before the event, anticipating a carbohydrate-heavy meal. However, he was served a light dinner with smoked trout and no bread.
  • During Jude Law’s speech, Norton began sweating profusely and alerted a waiter that he needed orange juice, causing a stir as staff tried to assist him.
  • Staff provided orange juice, a chocolate bar, and a bowl of potatoes, which Norton ate while seated opposite Nicole Kidman.
  • Norton now uses a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to better manage his blood sugar levels and prevent overnight hypoglycaemic episodes, which previously caused disorientation and concern for his partner.
