Netflix action musical makes history with four top 10s

KPop Demon Hunters trailer
  • Netflix's animated film "KPop Demon Hunters" has made history by becoming the first soundtrack to achieve four simultaneous top 10 positions on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • The film, released on 20 June, is currently Netflix's fourth most-watched movie of all time and received the highest combined critic and audience score for an original production on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • The soundtrack features the fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, whose song "Golden" is at No 1, and the Saja Boys with "Your Idol" and "Soda Pop" at No 4 and No 5, respectively, alongside another HUNTR/X track, "How It's Done", at No 10.
  • HUNTR/X became the first female K-pop-associated group to top the Hot 100 and the first all-woman collective of three or more members to achieve this since Destiny’s Child in 2001.
  • Co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the film's musical inspirations include real-life K-pop groups like BTS, Blackpink, and Twice, with themes emphasising music's ability to unite people across cultural boundaries.
