- Murray starred in 20 episodes of the popular show from 1983 to 2003, with tributes praising his talent and the "mischievous charm" he brought to the character.
- He had a prolonged battle with cancer, undergoing surgery and chemotherapy for a lung tumour in 2021, followed by treatment for a liver tumour, and a second primary cancer diagnosis in 2023.
- Beyond Only Fools and Horses, Murray also appeared in films such as Scum and Quadrophenia, and later returned to acting in TV shows after a period working as a taxi driver.
- Murray was married to Anong and had a daughter, Josie.
