  • Philip Lowrie, the actor who played Dennis Tanner in Coronation Street, has died at age 88.
  • Lowrie originated the role of Dennis, the original "bad boy" of the ITV soap, in the first episode in 1960.
  • He left the show in 1968 but returned in 2011, married Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) before being written out again in 2014.
  • Fans say he “brought an incredible charm and charisma” to the soap and was “one of the best characters ever” on Coronation Street.
  • The actor also had roles in West End productions and Victoria Wood comedies.
