Philip Lowrie, the actor who played Dennis Tanner in Coronation Street, has died at age 88.
Lowrie originated the role of Dennis, the original "bad boy" of the ITV soap, in the first episode in 1960.
He left the show in 1968 but returned in 2011, married Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) before being written out again in 2014.
Fans say he “brought an incredible charm and charisma” to the soap and was “one of the best characters ever” on Coronation Street.
The actor also had roles in West End productions and Victoria Wood comedies.
