Robert Redford, the acclaimed actor and Oscar-winning director, has died at the age of 89.
His death was confirmed by publicist Cindi Berger, who said he passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Utah home, surrounded by loved ones, with no specific cause disclosed.
Redford enjoyed a six-decade career, starring in over 50 films including iconic roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, and directed the Oscar-winning film Ordinary People.
He founded the Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Institute, significantly contributing to independent cinema.
Redford was also a lifelong environmental activist and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump.
