Paddington star reveals why she didn’t return for sequel

Paddington in Peru trailer
  • Sally Hawkins, who portrayed Mrs Brown in the initial two Paddington films, opted not to return for the third instalment, Paddington in Peru.
  • Her decision was primarily due to the absence of director Paul King, stating it would have “broken her heart” to continue without his involvement.
  • Hawkins subsequently joined King on the film Wonka, where she played the mother of Timothée Chalamet's character.
  • Emily Mortimer took over the role of Mrs Brown in Paddington in Peru, which was released in November 2024.
  • Critics received Paddington in Peru less positively than its predecessors, with some suggesting the perceived lack of Paul King's unique touch impacted the film's quality.
