Kim Novak has criticised the title of the forthcoming biopic Scandalous!, which recounts her clandestine 1957 love affair with Sammy Davis Jr.
The 92-year-old actor told The Guardian that their relationship was not scandalous and said she is “concerned they’re going to make it all sexual reasons”.
Their affair, which occurred during the Jim Crow era, ended after Columbia Pictures boss Harry Cohn allegedly threatened Davis with mob violence.
The film, directed by Colman Domingo and starring Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson, is described by Domingo as a “beautiful, sweet film” about love and privacy.
Novak is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival, where a documentary about her life, Kim Novak’s Vertigo, will premiere.
