Team behind South Park sign billion-dollar streaming rights deal
The creators of South Park have signed a $1.5billion deal with Paramount+ (Paramount Comedy)
South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have secured a landmark £1.1bn ($1.5bn) deal for the show's global streaming rights.
The agreement will see the long-running animated comedy exclusively available on Paramount+, restoring it to the platform in several countries.
The deal, struck by Parker and Stone’s Park County production company, is reportedly worth at least $300m annually over five years and includes a commitment for 10 new episodes per year.
Negotiations for the streaming rights, which followed the expiry of a $500m HBO Max deal, caused a delay in the premiere of South Park's 27th season.
The protracted talks were reportedly complicated by a pending merger between Paramount and Skydance.
