Related: Bear rescue in Florida
  • A two-year-old female black bear in northern Wisconsin was successfully freed after wandering for eight days with a plastic jar stuck on her head.
  • The bear's nearly 50-mile journey sparked widespread concern, prompting tracking efforts by Jamie Morey of the Chequamegon Humane Association and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
  • Officials located the bear in Cable, Wisconsin, tranquilized her, removed the plastic jar, and released her back into the wild.
  • Although underweight at 70 pounds, the bear is expected to recover as food is currently abundant in the woods before winter.
  • The DNR tagged the bear for identification and urged residents near bear habitats to secure their rubbish to prevent similar incidents.
