Famous Grand Designs home finally sells after 10 years

Channel 4's Grand Designs show introduction
  • Chesil Cliff House, dubbed the "saddest ever" build on Grand Designs, has finally sold for £4.35m after more than a decade of construction and setbacks.
  • The ambitious art deco project, initially budgeted at £1.8m, led to owner Edward Short accumulating significant debt, at one point reaching £7m.
  • The property's construction caused the breakdown of Short's marriage and severely impacted his personal life and finances.
  • Despite being initially listed for £10m in 2022 and later reduced to £5.25m, the house sold for nearly a million pounds less than its last asking price.
  • Short stated that the sale price will not cover his huge accumulated debt, though he expressed relief that the ordeal is over.
