Haifa Smoked Fish products recalled over listeria concerns
What Is Listeria
Haifa Smoked Fish has issued a nationwide recall for two types of its fish products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
The affected items are 8-oz packages of cold-smoked salmon (Lot 219) and cold-smoked sea bass (Lot 212), which were sold across the country.
The contamination was identified after sampling and analysis by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors.
Although no illnesses have been reported, Listeria infection can cause serious and sometimes fatal conditions, particularly in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Consumers are urged to return the recalled products to their place of purchase for a full refund, with this recall following several other recent food withdrawals due to Listeria concerns.
